I think this is brilliant! I really enjoyed the tempo change and the gradual climb. Would have so loved to hear more after that, though. How would it sound if you reverted back to the original tempo sometime after 2:35?

Back-From-Purgatory responds:

Glad you like it. And yes, I may end up expanding on this, there was something I had in mind to continue the song, but I wanted to get something posted so that I didn't go like 3 months without posting again... We shall see how it progressed in time though.

Though, I don’t care so much for Haydn’s works on a personal level, nor does the Rococo style interest me much, your rendition of this piece is quite good. There are a few parts of sliding in the runs, which is what you probably referred to as the uncleanness, but overall, your technique is adequate. I never got comfortable in my own playing style that involved the lighter touch in the fingers such as for works by Mozart, and etc. There is clarity in your playing, but whether it is because this defines more of your interests and playing style, I don’t know. The recording sounds excellent as well. Fun stuff

SoundChris responds:

Thanks a lot! Yeah - the sliding parts occured because i was quite nervous in this movement - it was my first piece on this evening and the other guys who played there were really mindblowing awesome :D In the second movement i was already much more relaxed.

Classical (vienna / mannheim) is not really my style. I also prefer to play chopin, debussy, rachmaninov, scrjabin and all those late romantic composers. But i havent played much within the last 1-2 years because of lack of time while learning for my law examinations. Since i started composing 2,5 years ago my freetime was invested in composing - not in performing anymore. You have to decide whats more important for you if time is so rare ... unfortunately :( But i hope i will have more time in the future again.

Thanks for leaving your thoughts here and also for your great forum replies - really helpful.

Best wishes to you!

Would it be perverse if I were to enjoy such work derived from pain?
‘Tis a step away from calling it sadism.

Heartgrinder responds:

Perverse would be to repeat what was necessary to inspire such a sound.

I'm glad you enjoyed me taking life's lemons and making audio lemonade.

More soon.

After listening to both mixes, I’d have to say that I prefer this one only because of the structure really. I do like the harsher tone especially in the rhythm of the other one, but this one sneaks up on you.
In this mix, you’ve left enough in the beginning to keep me wondering while the other mix has the parts present themselves right away.
For the most part, I suppose that would be a good thing as nowadays people have a short attention span. After 5-10 seconds, people will usually stop listening if nothing is there that immediately grabs their attention. But knowing this could also be used to weed out those that don’t care to spend enough time within a track and to reward others that aren’t here as a mere consumer.
At 1:43 here, I really start to dig the rhythm and I think about how we even got here in the first place. It just flows wonderfully, and I love when that happens.
Great mixture of sounds.

Just couple that with the style that I seemed to have developed somewhere that the 2nd half of my track usually takes a turn somewhere. Somewhere more, and yes, the 10 second folk and I will never be on the same page. Thanks for taking the time to review.

Your Pink Floyd reference caught my eye. This tone reminds me a bit of The Dark Side of the Moon. However, it was just bit too short as I'm sure you're obviously well aware. Could have used some guitar over the progression, which by the way, is quite nice. Even a synth like you did in Breeze would have fit nicely here as you could gradually add layers throughout this piece.
I should also note that the way you have mixed your drums was a great choice!

RufusTheMighty responds:

Thank you for the feedback! :D
Yes I am aware. I just designed it as a fun piece to record solo guitars over. I seem to do a lot of that so I'll take your advice and start uploading songs with more time to them on this site and save the short stuff for other sites. For drums I use EZ Drummer- metal machine expansion with the starclassic bubinga kit. Sounds the most real out of the sets I think.

Hmmm.....first thoughts: very interesting. The title is the reason I clicked on this as I'm Christian, but that isn't a prerequisite for me to enjoy a piece of music per se. Not sure if the title does fit though. I don't really hear the rejoicing. The tone sounds a bit more mysterious and eeriness which creates in me a feeling of indifference. Since I listen to the piano a lot, I'm not a fan of the tone of the piano you used. I would of liked some human feel to it as well--sounds a bit too midi.
It is ambient like, and I think it works fine as such. Can't say I enjoyed it completely, but you still got my respect for it.

SoulSecure responds:

I think it sounds happy, serene and uplifting. This seems more like just a cultural difference or a misunderstanding in style/expression or whatever. For example, a lot of Middle Eastern music that is happy is mistaken as sad by Westerners who don't understand the music. In either case it doesn't matter to me, as I made this song for God and He knows my heart.

I don't much care for humanization. Unless you're a real freak about it or it's necessary for the song, it can be irrelevant. I mean, this is an electronic piece of music, what do I care if it doesn't sound like anyone played it, eh? (BTW, I'm not afraid to use a MIDI piano)

On the tone, it could just be the piano itself. It's a VST I recently acquired called Piano One (uses a Yamaha Grand). It could also be the fact that I EQ'd it to specifically sound the way it does (to each his own).

If you didn't completely enjoy this, then you'd hate my other music! :)

First thing that intrigues me is the syncopation—love the rhythm.
Chord progression and the voice parts are great.
The combination of these makes this very enjoyable to listen to.
A real orchestra would really sound awesome for a piece like this..
This track has me interested to hear what else you have uploaded.

Aeris responds:

I'm glad you enjoyed it :) And I hope you enjoy the rest of my works. I tend to post both my worst and my best pieces in order to not shy away from the full representation of my progression (Plus NG is an alarmingly reliable archiving resource. :P)

Anyways, thank you for taking the time to listen and to even review, I appreciate it!

I listened to this track initially for the Secret Santa, but as I come back to it for another listen, I thought to myself, “This is really good.” Subtle, yet effective.
Each part that comes in is very pleasing and purposeful.
Nothing is wasted here.

krssvr responds:

Thank you!, I'm still working on this track i want it to eventually lead into a full remake of the first version of this song.

Words to live by!

Yes take your time-- already rated it a 5 after listening to 4 minutes and 30 seconds of it.
I'm enjoying the synth ambiance and subtle rhythm on top of it.
I would have increased the delay speed to the melody to further increase the dreaminess of the piece, but I'm just nitpicking.
Definitely get rid of that crash at 11:59, lol, unless of course you mean to wake the person up.
