Not too shabby especially for something that you’ve done in 3 days. I’m not going to nitpick too much at the production of the piece. It did seem to drag at parts, but the arpeggios at 4:00 was a pleasant surprise. The more I listen to it, I’ve come to actually enjoy this.
How you used some of the instruments, at times they did seem to be a little unnatural. For example, I can hear the horns being played in a way that seemed like they were being inputted via a keyboard or just penciled in. Some automation would help that, and how I would approach that is by treating it as a voice so you can have an idea on the dynamics and how a musician would breath as they play their instrument.
Overall, musically speaking, I enjoyed the brooding nature of the piece and your choice of arrangement. Like I said for 3 days it’s good. I would have just spent a little more time with this in tweaking what you have to make it sound a bit more natural with the use of automation and legato in between notes.
With that review, I don’t want to make it seem like I didn’t enjoy the piece, however, because I actually did.

Morteth9 responds:

Thanks a lot! A great review. Helps.

Makes sense.
I'll just say this directly about the music: wouldn't change a thing.
It reminds me of another dream, and here's to hoping for more "Dreams" like it:
"It's amazing how much glass can spread all over one's floor from a single picture frame. As if it was the picture itself that held so much energy in it which caused it to burst across the floor. With my bloody feet, I was overwhelmed with a mixture of joy and regret–– a pain that has never felt so good."

ZLEAP responds:

I am driven by the dream.

But who feeds who?

Thanks.

I like to see actual classical in the portal... a good contrast which sometimes I find to be humorous as you wouldn't expect to hear this here.
It's a good Interpretation. You have a rhythmic/analytical approach to your playing.
I'm curious how it would sound if you would imagine a phrase in a more "romantic" approach.
To not think about the individual notes, but rather to where the music is going.
For example: That E-flat minor chord in the section at 1:09, I imagine an explosion from the sky that's suspended in time, and the chords in the higher register to be falling debris, snow, or whatever you would want to think. As a result, the tempo could gradually pick up speed for each moment after the bass note sounds in its own ascending motion.
At any rate, I enjoyed your playing, but I thought I would just give you my 2 cents in concentrating less on the individual note but as a whole while you play.
Would love to hear more.

JosephAS1 responds:

Let's call it a "happy accident"...
I specially like interesting reviews like yours, thank you!

Yes the first piano piece that I found from you. After several consecutive listens, I must say that I actually do enjoy this. However, I felt that this piece could have use some elbow in the higher register.

Jakey-San responds:

I tried, although I was too caught up with faceplanting the lower register.

You got a very nice tone out of that piano, and your use of the ambient sounds seem reminiscent of Goldmund. Very good balance in this mix. I don’t hear anything that I didn’t like so no constructive feedback in that regard. I enjoyed this very much and most likely will continue to.

broove responds:

Mixing was a huge pain, especially the piano. And although I was satisfied with the result at the moment of publishing, now I can still hear things that need improving.

Thank you for a comment. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

ahh a favorite subject matter of mine, or at least one of.
Great chord progression and guitar work as usual with your other pieces.
It is a bit short, but perhaps its just vicariously longing for continuance as is the case when it comes to heartbreak.
Am I making excuses for you? Maybe, but I'm going to go with that.

Yeah you are right about people expecting something different as far as Ambient goes, but that's okay. I enjoyed this. I love the bass synths. It felt like it was building up to something quite nicely, but around 2:30 it seemed like you were hitting a wall. Sounds like it's missing something, and Elitistinen might be onto something.
Still pretty good.

Chemiqals responds:

Thanks for the honest feedback! I might revisit this song =)

At thirty-five seconds in I was thinking, "alright I can dig this." It kind of sneaks up on you and then it vanishes. Raxore pretty much said it. Nice little piece.

IF this is what you heard in your ear then it shouldn't matter what I think. However I will say this, I enjoyed the beginning but then the piece came to a point where I didn't know where you wanted to go with it.

Just realized that this works great as a loop! Get rid of the voice.

Synthrax responds:

Thanks man!!! I know it's a little rough but I'm fixing it up!! Haha. And it sounds good to me but I want to make music that not only I like but others like. I enjoy bringing out the emotions through my music. :)

This is some really good stuff, and it really moves. Love the adding of layers starting at 2:15

Anchorwind responds:

I'm glad someone who measures sounds enjoys my work, for I am largely the opposite of scientific save my pattern-based, even-beat styling. That mechanical predictability has much significance, life experiences as well as a dedication to breviloquence, and needs not be elaborated upon here. Aside from the mechanical structure, I feel the story that needs to be told and then build the sounds that echo the emotional resonance. No measurements, no hard data, just intuition, emotion, and a comedy of errors.
