Man love this groove, chord progression, and ambient sounds! I think you developed this quite well as I can easily follow the linear motion throughout. Beautiful work! Love everything about the arrangement and structure on this one. Perhaps my favorite you've done despite it only feeling like a minute long.

My first thought was Tron, but with the chord progression and the organ at the beginning, I hear a Philip Glass style of writing. My only gripe about this piece is the composition aspect of it. The chord choices seem a little like rambling as if you were improvising and unsure of where you want to go with what you're trying to say. There are phrases that work well such as at 1:20 and 2:38, but the connection between sections aren't quite linear compositionally speaking. I think it took too long to get to that section as well from the beginning which gives it a repetitive feel only because at first you grabbed my attention with the arpeggios but I ended up waiting too long for the next part. Production wise, I don't have any issues with this. Not too shabby, mate.

TheJawns responds:

Thanks for the response! I guess it makes sense that it comes of as a bit "rambly", since i just put in 2 chords at random at first, and worked my way from there. I do often work that way. Maybe i should stop doing that :D
I'm really happy the production was fine! I honestly had very little idea what i was doing, so glad that worked out!

This gave me quite a smile. What a fun mix of styles

okay at 1:30 the piece takes a surprising turn that perked my ears. mystifying and alluring moment from that point. Wish that moment kept going to swell into something big, but this piece really grabs me!

OmegaP responds:

Thanks for taking the time to listen! It is really interesting that 1:30 part grab your attention, I am always nervous that people will get board during the slower parts or the build ups.

This sounds great! and btw it's not often one gets the notice of Bosa. The only problem I have with this is that because you have so many great ideas that I want to hear them developed a bit more. That piano ending is just too good to let it only play for twenty seconds. Though I think that right when the music starts rising, instead of an explosion of epic music, you take it to a piano. Great idea

OmegaP responds:

Yeah, Developing ideas is hard, or maybe it is just me. I really should do something with that piano ending it was kind of a random impromptu thing that just happened. Hey, Good luck in the upcoming competitions! You submitted some really stellar tracks.

Love your ambient style. fav'd!

Eagleon responds:

Awesome. Thank you :)

lol even upon the first five seconds, one can tell that this is going to kick ass! This is some serious stuff. I think the space that you allow in between chords from the beginning really helps the immense and spacious sound that you're able to provide in this track to create such an epic sound.

Thank you! Really thrilled you liked it!
Sorry for not replying at the time. There were periods in which I wasn't really in the right mindset.

I just have to say something for a piece like this despite my lack of knowledge in this stylistic approach even if only as an admirer. The intro to this never gets old even days later upon first hearing it. The two minute mark is such a nice rhythmic break before it gets right into excitement. The melodic theme heard throughout is a good one as well.

Yay! Glad the intro works, I was actually afraid that it was a bit too bare to be honest. Two minute mark was a thought I had for just a normal breakdown - always liked ones that show some really nice chords, and I love light keyboards.

As for the melodic theme - thank you so much for picking up on the melodic themes. x_x Nobody ever seems to mention them as actual themes, regardless of whether I try to work them into multiple sections of the piece in a way that's new each time. It's almost depressing, actually - like I shouldn't even put a main theme in the first place. But I don't really like that option so eh.

Thank you for the review, Phono - great to see it! And, don't be shy about being critical if there *is* something that you don't like about it, I'm fine with hearing about what people don't like as long as they're clear about it. :)

What fun music! I probably wouldn't know how to write such happy-go-lucky kind of stuff. Very melodic stuff that take a lot of surprising turns. I absolutely love the moment at twenty seconds (I keep returning to this moment). Almost sounds a little somber but just for a fleeting moment. Man! I'm serious that for twenty seconds between .20-.40, I can't get enough of it and I have no idea why!
I love your percussion choice as well despite it not being a conventional one. Reminds me of some lesser known folk rock bands that I enjoy.

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

I definitely get what you mean XD
I usually write music with more sad themes, and if not sad, then at least more thought provoking, I like to think. But I try to learn to make several different kinds of tracks, because it's an interesting learning experience, and the results are fun to hear :D
I think you should totally try to write something super happy sometime, just for the lolz!

Great to hear that you love 0:20-0:40! That's the lead with the most robot like voice, and is also the first lead in the track. I had a hard time finding good sounding robot vocoders XD
Also, wonderful catch with the slight hint of sadness! I noticed that too, but I never thought someone else would actually hear that the way I do o.O

0:51-1:08 is my personal favorite part, and is also the first part I made in this composition :p
My percussion choice was mostly based on the fact that it's the highest quality drum vst I have. I have also heard some bands who have combined folk music with electronic! These drums, while I get what people mean with that they don't quite fit, don't sound wrong to me. But they're not what most people would use for sure :D
And at least 3 people have already said that they need work, so I will try to improve them for my next electronic track (whenever that is) even though I kinda like them myself ;)

Thanks for taking the time to listen and write a review! It's a nice change to listen to some happier music now and then isn't it :3?

It certainly does sound like a happy turtle ha! twenty seconds in after the piano is what really makes this fun to listen to, and it's quite a surprise of what I expected to hear. You got an interesting sound in regards to your choice of arrangement. Memorable

SourJovis responds:

Thank you! Glad you agree this sounds like a happy turtle, and you think it's memorable!
